Melt oil and margarine in saucepan. Add onions and cook over high heat 2 minutes. Add salt, pepper and broth, reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes or until just tender. Add whisky and let the sauce cook down slightly. As a variation, soak 2 TBLS raisins in the whiskey before you cook the onions, and add this at the end.
