Mix and stir constantly over slow fire until sugar dissolves. Boil gently without stirring to soft-ball stage. Set in large bowl of cold water and do not disturb until cooled to 100 degrees. Add 2 tablespoons butter and ½ txp vanilla. Beat until thick and creamy. Pour into pan, cool and cut.
