Place first amount of strawberries stem end down in pie shell using just enough for 1 layer. Keep the rest until bottom ones are glazed.
Combine water and mashed strawberries in saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Simmer about 5 minutes. Strain. Return liquid to saucepan.
Mix sugar and cornstarch in small bowl. Add to juice. Heat and stir until it boils and thickens. Cool to lukewarm. Spoon some over berries in pie shell. Place remaining berries over top and spoon rest of glaze over them. A simple method is to toss berries in glaze and turn into pie shell. Large berries may be cut. More berries may be used if desired. Chill at least 2 hours.
