Preheat oven to 350F. Mix sugar and shortening. Beat eggs slightly; stir into shortening mixture; add half of flour; beat until smooth; add rest of flour, a little at a time; beat until well-mixed. Place all other ingredients in separate bowl (save last ingredient for sprinkling on top, if desired), blend and add to flour mixture.
