2¾ | teaspoon | Baking powder |
¼ | teaspoon | Salt |
2/3 | cups | Shortening |
1½ | cups | Sugar |
1 | teaspoon | Vanilla |
3 | | Eggs, separted |
¾ | cups | Milk |
1½ | cups | Ground black walnuts |

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Cream shortening with sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Add beaten egg yolks and beat thoroughly. Add sifted dry ingredients and milk alternately in small amounts, beating well after each addition. Add nuts and fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
