2 | cups | Sifted cake flour |
2 | teaspoon | Baking powder |
¼ | teaspoon | Salt |
½ | cups | Shortening |
1 | cups | Sugar |
2 | | Eggs, well beaten |
2/3 | cups | Milk |
1 | teaspoon | Cinnamon |
½ | teaspoon | Cloves |
½ | teaspoon | Nutmeg |
2 | tablespoon | Molasses |

Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and beat thoroughly. Add sifted dry ingredients and milk alternately in small amounts, beating well after each addition. Divide batter into 2 parts. To one part, add spices light and dark mixtures. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1¼ hour or until firm to the touch. Spread Butter Frosting on top and sides of cake. Makes 1 (8x8 inch) cake.
